Homebrew Game in a Day Challenge

We challenged the great homebrew game developer Jonathan Cauldwell to create a new Spectrum game in just one day at Byte Back, and with the help of attendees he succeeded!

The outline game concept was decided upon by Jonathan, as described below:

"When considering game ideas, I was looking for suggestions with scope for other people to get involved designing levels and maybe graphics on the day. Two suggestions seemed to fit the bill quite well. DM_Boozefreak's Rabid Potato Kill Frenzy had the player working in a chip shop near a nuclear power plant, facing waves of mutated potatoes, fish, burgers and sausages. Aidan Lockett's suggestion, Bonehead Billy, was for a platform game where the player indirectly controlled a character by placing blocks around the screen to control his movement."

"Since both games would work equally well, I have decided to combine the two into a third hybrid game. The action will take place in a drive-through restaurant where various mutant comestibles are delivered periodically, and move around the screen according to blocks the player can change to force them to move left, right, jump etc. at different points. The idea will be to fulfill customer's orders by sending the correct foods through the relevant windows before they lose patience and complain to the manager."

The completed game is entitled Banger Management and is now available for download.
